Car manufacturers often employ creative and sometimes unconventional methods to camouflage their upcoming production vehicles during development.

While some manufacturers cover their test cars with extensive fake body panels, others prefer colourful wraps. Lamborghini, however, has taken a unique approach that we've never seen before. In the attached video, you can take a look at a new electrified version of the company's best-seller, the Urus.

In 2023, Lamborghini reached a significant milestone by selling 6,087 Urus, contributing to a record-breaking year for the Italian automaker. In 2024, the super SUV will get a plug-in hybrid variant, which the company is currently fine-tuning. Despite its funky camouflage, which gives the plug-in Urus a cartoonish appearance, the actual design will be in keeping with the enhanced performance it packs under the bonnet.

Although Lamborghini hasn't officially confirmed the powertrain for the Urus PHEV, it's logical to assume that it will use an electrified version of the Volkswagen Group's 4.0-litre V8 engine. In the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, this engine, combined with an electric motor, delivers an impressive 739 horsepower and 950Nm of torque. Given Lamborghini's reputation, it's likely that the Urus could offer even more power with a plug-in hybrid.

If you had your eye on a traditional V8 Urus, you may be out of luck, as Lamborghini is currently ending production of its internal combustion models due to high demand. However, if you're interested in the plug-in Urus, it's due to make its official debut later this year. Lamborghini aims to electrify its entire model range by the middle of this decade.
