A recent video captured outside Ferrari's Maranello factory reveals employees of the renowned Italian supercar manufacturer testing a Tesla Model S Plaid. It's unexpected to witness the presence of this American electric sedan within the revered premises of Ferrari, particularly since there have been no indications of Ferrari venturing into the electric sedan segment.
Ferrari has started using hybrid technology in its vehicles, with hybrids making up almost half of the brand's sales last year. However, the company's first fully electric model is not expected to be released until 2025.
Ferrari might be exploring the existing market or evaluating Tesla's performance against their upcoming PHEV system, which can accelerate a car to 100 km/h in two seconds before engaging the gasoline engine.
The automaker is set to launch three new cars in 2024. One of them may feature a plug-in hybrid twin-turbocharged V6 engine, derived from the 296 GTB. The LaFerrari successor is rumored to have this engine. Additionally, we can expect the debut of the 812 Superfast replacement, which is likely to retain a naturally aspirated V12 engine without any electrification.
While Ferrari currently prioritizes hybrids, it is also actively exploring battery-electric vehicles, alongside the rest of the industry. Although the Model S may not be Tesla's top-selling model, any electric car from Ferrari would need to surpass the performance of the California-based four-door American sedan, boasting over 1,000 horsepower at its most exhilarating configuration.
