Chinese company SAIC will rebrand its IM models to avoid scaring off customers with a little-known name.

Yesterday we wrote that SAIC and its subsidiary MG are planning to bring a new brand of technologically advanced electric cars IM to Europe. Now it has become known that these cars will immediately be presented under the more familiar on the continent brand MG.

Founded in 1924 in the UK, MG has a rich century of history and is currently owned by SAIC Motor Corporation. IM Motors is the result of a collaboration between SAIC Motor Corporation Group, Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park and Alibaba Group, which aims to compete with companies such as Tesla and Nio. In this association, SAIC is responsible for the production of cars and Alibaba is responsible for new technologies.

IM stands for "Intelligent Mobility." The company said it will offer exclusively electric cars under its brand with a focus on new technologies and "exceptional driving experiences". The market launch will focus on sedans and crossovers.

IM cars are currently available exclusively in China. The IM L6 mid-size sedan will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next week, measuring 4,931 / 1,960 / 1,474 mm with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. There are two battery options for the L6: 90 kWh and 100 kWh. They provide a range of up to 700 and 770 kilometres in the Chinese CLTC cycle, respectively.
