The new Renault Scenic has been named Car of the Year 2024 at a ceremony held at the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS). The Renault Scenic E-Tec came first with 329 votes. For 22 jurors, this SUV was chosen as the best of the seven finalists.
This is the seventh time that Renault has won the Car of the Year trophy, now in its 61st year.
In second place was the BMW 5 Series with 308 votes, followed by the new Peugeot 3008 in third place with 197 votes. The other finalists for the award were the Kia EV9 (190 points), Volvo EX30 (168), BYD Seal (131) and Toyota C-HR (127). In this edition, four of the seven finalists were all-electric, including the winner, and the other three had all-electric and/or plug-in versions.
This marks the return of the Car of the Year ceremony to the GIMS, after being held at the Brussels International Motor Show in 2023. The Car of the Year ceremony was the first event of the Geneva International Motor Show.
The jury for the 2024 Car of the Year is made up of 58 members representing 22 countries. Each juror nominates seven new cars that were driven and sold before the end of the previous calendar year, and the seven cars with the most votes combined then make up the final shortlist.
The COTY rules state: "The main criteria on which a car should be judged are: general design, comfort, safety, economy, handling and general roadworthiness, performance, functionality, general environmental requirements, driver satisfaction and price.
The 2023 Car of the Year was the Jeep Avenger, while the previous year's winner was the Kia EV6.
