According to Japanese media, Nissan and Honda are considering co-operation in the field of electric vehicles.
The information is mainly based on Kyodo News and Nikkei Asia reports citing insiders. According to TV Tokyo, the two sides will discuss the possibility of an alliance in various fields. Nikkei writes that Nissan and Honda may work together on electric cars to better compete with Chinese rivals.
Just yesterday, it was reported that Nissan and Honda are planning to significantly reduce their production capacity in China due to perceived difficulties in competing with local electric car makers.
Citing several sources at Nissan, Nikkei reports that the two Japanese companies are considering the introduction of joint powertrains, joint procurement and the development of a common platform. In addition, co-operation could extend to battery procurement and even joint development of electric vehicles.
In Europe, Nissan remains a reliable partner of Renault, for example, the next electric Nissan Micra will be built on the same platform as the recently introduced Renault 5.
