Dongfeng Forthing recently unveiled the Xinghai S7, an all-electric sedan with a range of 550 kilometers.

The announcement came as part of the company's new product lineup introduction. The sedan falls within the market segment priced between 130,000 to 200,000 yuan ($18,000 – $27,000). It is set to launch in the second quarter of 2024.

The Xinghai S7 is built on Dongfeng's S2-E platform and boasts a drag coefficient of 0.195Cd. Its design is relatively mainstream compared to other models such as the Tesla Model 3, Xiaomi SU7, and BYD Seal. It features a fastback design, frameless doors, hidden door handles, and multi-spoke rims. The car is positioned as a mid-to-large sedan, measuring 4935/1915/1495 mm, with a 2915 mm wheelbase.

Power comes from a permanent magnet synchronous motor rated at 160 kW (215 hp) and producing a torque of 310 Nm.

The Xinghai S7's battery is a 56.832 kWh lithium iron phosphate unit that offers an CLTC range of up to 550 km on a single charge. Fast charging allows for recharging from 30% to 80% capacity in approximately 27.6 minutes.

Performance-wise, the sedan can achieve a top speed of 165 km/h and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.67 seconds. Inside, passengers will find features such as a D-shaped steering wheel, floating central control screen, hollowed-out center console, and wireless charging for mobile phones.

Dongfeng Forthing's introduction of the Xinghai S7 comes during challenging times for the company. In January and February of this year, Dongfeng Forthing sold only 7,855 vehicles. The company's sales have been declining since its peak performance in 2016, when it sold 260,000 vehicles. In 2022, it sold only 122,300 vehicles, and in 2023, it sold 51,479 vehicles.
