Rivian celebrated the production of its 100,000th vehicle, a milestone that many automotive startups strive to achieve but often fail to reach. The company announced this achievement on April 3, 2024.

The milestone vehicle is a white R1S SUV built at Rivian's manufacturing plant in Normal, Illinois. CEO RJ Scaringe shared the news on the social media platform X and included a picture of the vehicle.

This significant moment highlights Rivian's position in the electric vehicle (EV) market. Comparatively, reaching such a production number is challenging for new entrants in the automotive industry. It represents not just the volume of vehicles produced but also Rivian's stability and growth potential.

Besides its manufacturing achievements, Rivian has also excelled in safety standards. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2024 Rivian R1T pickup truck the "Top Safety Pick+" rating. This makes it the only large pickup to achieve this highest safety honor for the year 2024.

For this award, vehicles undergo several tests to assess their ability to protect occupants during crashes. The 2024 Toyota Tundra received a "Top Safety Pick" award but did not match Rivian's higher accolade. Factors contributing to the R1T's top safety rating include good ratings in tests like small overlap front test and moderate overlap front test.

The IIHS recently updated its testing criteria to improve safety standards. These updates include additional evaluations focusing on rear passenger safety and crash prevention technology effectiveness. The Rivian R1T performed well across these areas, with low risk of head, neck, and chest injuries reported.
