The E-HS9 is described as an all-electric luxury SUV that accommodates up to seven passengers across three rows. It is now available in two battery configurations and aims to compete within the German luxury vehicle sector.
Hongqi, often referred to as the "Rolls-Royce of China," is owned by FAW, China’s second-largest state-owned automaker. The brand has successfully made its mark in other European countries such as Norway, Denmark, and Iceland.
The design of the E-HS9 reflects the influence of Giles Taylor, former chief designer at Rolls-Royce who was recruited by FAW in 2018. This influence is particularly evident in the similarities between the E-HS9 and Rolls-Royce's Cullinan, indicating a blend of Chinese innovation with traditional British luxury design cues.

The E-HS9 offers two battery options: a standard configuration with a 99 kWh capacity achieving a range of 465 km, and an exclusive long-range version for the European market boasting a 120 kWh capacity with a range of up to 515 km. Additionally, it supports fast charging up to 140 kW, allowing for a quick recovery of 100 km in just 10 minutes.
Pricing for the base model starts at €80,000, while the long-range model is priced at €102,995. This pricing strategy positions the E-HS9 competitively against ICE-powered luxury SUVs like the BMW X7 which starts from €103,000 in Germany.
