Toyota has confirmed its plans to introduce an electric Hilux pickup truck in Thailand by the end of next year.

This announcement follows Isuzu's recent reveal of the D-Max EV (D-MAX BEV) at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2024, where they also announced plans to manufacture the electric pickup truck in Thailand by 2025.

Toyota Motor Thailand's president, Noriaki Yamashita, revealed that the Hilux EV could be ready by the end of next year. However, he did not specify whether it will be produced in the country or imported. Yamashita also stated that Toyota, the market leader in Thailand, will deliver approximately a dozen Hilux EV pickup trucks to the tourist beach town of Pattaya for trials as public transportation next month.

The Hilux EV was first seen as the Hilux Revo BEV concept in December 2022. The concept was expected to enter production within a year. Toyota has not yet released technical specifications for the upcoming Hilux EV, such as battery capacity, range, and power.

However, Autocar India predicts that the Toyota Hilux EV will have a standard 4WD system with a dual-battery setup, one on each axle. For reference, the Isuzu D-Max EV features a 66.9kWh battery pack and a combined power and torque output of 177hp and 325Nm, respectively. Additionally, the Isuzu electric pickup truck has a maximum payload capacity of 1,000kg and a towing capacity of 3,500kg.
