Volkswagen is officially launching the new generation of the Tiguan in China, which differs significantly from its European counterpart. The new series is produced locally by the SAIC-VW joint venture and has a longer wheelbase.

Overall, the VW Tiguan L measures 4,735 mm in length, 1,859 mm in width and 1,682 mm in height as well as 2,791 mm in wheelbase. In practice, this makes it 197 mm longer, 17 mm wider and 43 mm higher than the European Tiguan, and it also has a 111 mm longer wheelbase. The trunk holds from 471 liters to 1,696 liters.

In terms of exterior design, the Tiguan L Pro is practically identical to its European brother, but differs in details. The front bumper has more horizontal elements, while the body kit of the Tiguan L Pro R-Line looks sportier.

Inside, the photos show an even more refined interior and the use of materials such as Alcantara, leather, brushed steel details, glossy black and more. The gearshift lever is located on the steering column, as in the Euro Tiguan, and the dashboard has been expanded to include a third 11.6-inch screen that can only be used by the front passenger (a feature missing from the European model).

The equipment list includes, among other things, matrix LED headlights, a panoramic roof, a head-up display, massage seats, a parking assistant, an adaptive cruise control, an automatic braking and lane keeping system.

In China, the Tiguan L will be equipped with a 2.0 liter turbo petrol engine with 186 or 220 hp, always combined with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG). The most powerful versions will use 4Motion all-wheel drive. A hybrid variant will be added to the portfolio at a later date.

This naturally leads to the question of whether we will also receive the long Tiguan. Prototypes have already been spotted that point to a successor to the previous Tiguan Allspace. Until now it was rumored that the new Tayron for China could become a global model. So it's quite possible that we'll see the Tiguan L shown here in both Europe and the USA, but produced locally.
