Tesla hit a major production milestone by assembling its three millionth electric vehicle at the Fremont factory on May 18, 2024. The event was highlighted by the rollout of a Tesla Model S in blue.

Fremont's facility has been pivotal since Tesla's acquisition in 2010. Now responsible for half of Tesla's total global output which reached six million electric vehicles by March 2024, the factory notably contributed three million EVs to this impressive count. Models produced here include the Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y. The annual production capacity of the site includes over 550,000 units for the Model 3 and Model Y combined and roughly 100,000 for the Model S and X.

Supporting this massive output is Giga Nevada. This factory provides essential components like batteries and drive units directly to Fremont, showcasing an integrated supply chain strategy.

On a global scale, Tesla’s factories span several strategic locations including China with a notable share of around fifty percent as well as Texas and Germany among others. While China significantly contributes to Tesla's manufacturing capabilities, Fremont remains critical to the firm's operational success in North America.

According to Tesla-focused analyst Troy Teslike, the most recent production milestone indicates that the production rate is better than estimated earlier this year. Q2 2024 is still expected to be weaker than a year ago, mainly due to weaker demand in a challenging market environment.
