Hyundai Motor Group announced on Tuesday the appointment of Manfred Harrer as Executive Vice President and Head of Genesis & Performance Development Tech Unit.

Previously a leading engineer at Porsche, Harrer will now spearhead Hyundai's enhanced focus on high-performance and electric vehicles. This strategic move aligns with Hyundai's goal to lead in the electric vehicle (EV) era and boost the appeal of its models globally.

Manfred Harrer brings over 25 years of experience from prestigious automakers including Porsche, Audi AG, and BMW Group. At Porsche, he notably led the development of the Taycan, Porsche’s first EV. His broad expertise spans chassis development, electronic systems, and software development.

The Genesis & Performance Development Tech Unit operates under Hyundai's R&D division. It primarily serves Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia. Harrer will report to Yang Heui-won, President of the Hyundai-Kia R&D Division.

Hyundai expects Harrer to accelerate the transition to electrification and enhance leadership in the EV market. Specific attention will be given to developing high-performance Genesis models and transitioning Hyundai and Kia brands toward electrification.

Yang Heui-won commented, "As a world-renowned performance vehicle expert, Manfred will contribute significantly to the development of future Genesis high-performance models, as well as our transition to electrification for Hyundai and Kia brands."

Harrer said he is dedicated to playing a pivotal role in the future evolution of luxury Genesis models as well as Hyundai and Kia's high-performance vehicles.
