Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of 109,283 Lincoln Aviator vehicles due to a fault in the rearview camera.

The issue, identified as a flickering or distorted image from the camera, chiefly arises due to electromagnetic interference caused by cellphone usage. This problem affects models from the years 2020 to 2024 and poses an increased risk of crashes.

Owners of the affected vehicles will receive notifications starting July 8 to bring their cars in for repairs. Ford will install shielding on the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) at no cost to vehicle owners. This intervention aims to block the electromagnetic interference and resolve the visualization issue with the rearview camera.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is also involved and provides additional support through their Vehicle Safety Hotline. Car owners can contact Ford's customer service or check with NHTSA to get more information regarding this recall using reference number 24S35.

As a precaution until the defect can be fixed, Ford advises owners not to use cellphones while reversing their vehicles. This measure is crucial to avoiding potential accidents due to the camera’s malfunction.
