Rivian is recalling more than 2,300 R1S, R1T, and EDV models in the United States because their headlights may not meet production specifications or Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

The American car manufacturer has revealed that certain 2023 and 2024 examples of the R1T, R1S and EDV have headlights that are set slightly too low. As a result, the vehicles may not adequately illuminate the road while driving, increasing the risk of a crash, especially at night.

A total of 2,334 vehicles are being recalled. These include R1S models manufactured between April 7, 2023 and March 25, 2023; R1T models manufactured between September 9, 2023 and March 25, 2024; and EDV models manufactured between April 27, 2023 and March 15, 2024.

Rivian's vehicle manufacturing team first identified a potential alignment issue between headlight alignment stations on February 7, 2024. It initiated an investigation and determined that some headlights were not properly aligned.

Owners of affected models will be notified by mail on or before July 6. Rivian dealers will inspect the headlight assembly on affected vehicles and correct it free of charge if necessary.

This isn't the first time select Rivian models have been recalled for a minor issue. In May, the company recalled 127 R1T and R1S models because they lacked an airbag label on the dashboard. To address this issue, Rivian will mail airbag stickers to owners and ask them to place them on the dashboard.

Rivian is preparing to launch the 2025 R1T and R1S in the U.S. later this year. The new standard models will ditch the old 105.9 kWh battery in favor of a smaller 92.5 kWh pack. Rivian has also dropped the 21-inch wheel option and designed new 22-inch wheels for the electric SUV and pickup.
