Ford's iconic Group B rally cars, the RS200 and Mk1 Escort, are set for a revival. UK-based Boreham Motorworks has announced a licence agreement with Ford to produce a limited number of these historic models "over the coming years".

The RS200 is returning just in time for its 40th anniversary and will be "all-new, built from the ground up" rather than a continuation of the model. Judging from teaser images of the RS200, the car will have modern elements such as LED headlights, and the interior will likely be updated for modern use, similar to what Kimera did with its version of the Lancia 037.

The Escort, on the other hand, will be "blueprint-accurate" and "era-appropriate." It will even have a VIN number that continues from the original series. What's also interesting is that both of these cars will be authorised to be driven on public roads. At least in the UK.

Details such as the price, engines or power output of these models have not yet been disclosed. However, Boreham is referring to the original RS200's all-wheel drive layout with a mid-mounted engine, so it's likely to remain. And given that the original RS200 had a lightweight fibreglass body, the modern version from Boreham should keep it just as light due to the large amount of carbon fibre.

Boreham says these aren't the only models the company has planned to relaunch as part of its partnership with Ford. At least five models - some successor cars and other recreated models - will be produced under licence from the American company.
