Earlier this month, Volvo finally started production of the electric EX90, which was supposed to go on sale back at the beginning of the year. The automaker had to delay the launch of the electric car in order to fix some remaining software issues. However, even with the six-month delay, the first copies of the EX90 may be missing some features.
The media has obtained an email that Volvo is sending out to EX90 buyers. It lists a list of features "that may be delayed on delivery of your EX90." The list includes safety and convenience features like cross-traffic alert, cornering assist, Apple CarPlay wireless connectivity and two-way charging. It's also reported that LiDAR-based automated driving system integration will only be unlocked after a future software update.
Owners will have to settle for a dark theme for the infotainment and driver display for the foreseeable future. The light theme will also come in a future software update.
They will also have to come to terms with the fact that the electric car can lose about 3 per cent of its battery charge per day when it is parked and not charging. Volvo says the EX90's main computer now has to run in the background to manage its "highly advanced features", but this will be fixed in a future update. Power consumption stops after 72 hours when the car enters 'deep sleep mode' to conserve battery power."
In an email to customers, the company said most of the missing features will be available for free through wireless updates. However, some may have to bring their car to a dealer, which Volvo will notify in advance.
