A Dutch coachbuilder, Heritage Customs, has turned the new Land Rover Defender into a pickup truck. Customers can now get this modified version starting at €155,000 ($166,000), with the project completed in about three months.

Land Rover recently introduced three new Defender models but did not include a pickup configuration. This gap in their product lineup left room for customization and modification enthusiasts to innovate. Stepping up to this opportunity is Heritage Customs, known for its bespoke vehicle modifications. They selected the longest model from the Defender series for this transformation.

The customization options from Heritage Customs are extensive and cater to personal preference. They offer changes ranging from paint colors and decal packs to different wheel designs sized between 20-22 inches. The interior customization features various upholstery choices and interior trims, enhancing both comfort and style.

It doesn't sound like Heritage Customs makes mechanical modifications during the transformation. Their base model starts with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged diesel six-cylinder engine with 350 horsepower under the X Dynamic SE trim level. For those seeking more power, an upgrade to a 5.0-liter V8 supercharged engine delivering 425 horsepower is available at an additional cost. All conversions feature all-wheel drive.

Financially speaking, prospective buyers need to place a €15,000 deposit ($16,000) to secure their conversion slot with Heritage Customs starting at €155,000 excluding taxes (about $166,000). Each truck requires approximately three months of hand assembly before it’s ready for delivery.

Historically, defenders have been offered as trucks for decades which resonates with enthusiasts who enjoy its rugged utility and distinctive style. While there have been rumors of Land Rover reintroducing a pickup variant in their new lineup of Defenders, nothing concrete has materialized as yet which makes Heritage Customs' initiative even more significant for fans wishing to combine classic utility with modern refinement.
