The second-generation HS is closely related to the third-generation Roewe RX5, already available in China. This relationship is evident in the shared sheet metal profile, greenhouse, and lighting units. However, the MG HS differentiates itself with a unique front bumper, grille, and sportier air intakes.
The new MG HS measures between 4,655 and 4,670 mm (183.3 to 183.9 inches) in length and 1,890 mm (74.4 inches) in width, positioning it between the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V. The wheelbase has been extended by 45 mm (1.8 inches) to 2,765 mm (108.9 inches) compared to its predecessor.
Inside, the new HS offers increased space, seating for five, and a boot capacity of 507 liters (17.9 cubic feet). The dashboard features dual 12.3-inch displays and a new 'shuttle-style' gear shifter on the center console. Standard features, depending on the trim level, may include a wireless charging pad, an 8-speaker audio system, a 360-degree camera, and the MG Pilot ADAS package.

The powertrain options for the MG HS include gasoline and PHEV variants. The PHEV setup combines a 1.5-liter engine producing 141 hp (105 kW / 142 PS) with a more powerful electric motor generating 207 hp (154 kW / 209 PS). This configuration allows the HS to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.8 seconds, with a 24.7 kWh battery pack offering up to 75 miles (121 km) of zero-emission range.
The entry-level model features a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine delivering 168 hp (125 kW / 169 PS) and 275 Nm of torque, available with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, powering the front wheels.
Pricing for the new MG HS starts at £24,995 ($32,187) for the ICE version and £31,495 ($40,557) for the PHEV. Orders are now open in the UK, with initial deliveries expected by the end of July.
