Following in the footsteps of Huawei and Xiaomi, another Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Meizu, is entering the electric car business. Owned by the Geely Group, Meizu plans to launch its first electric car this year, utilizing the Geely SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform.

At the ChinaJoy 2024 trade fair, Liao Qinghong, COO of Meizu, confirmed the upcoming launch of Meizu Automobile. He highlighted that Meizu's vehicles will function differently from those of conventional car manufacturers.

Meizu follows rivals Xiaomi, whose SU7 has been on the market since spring, and Huawei, which has partnered with several car manufacturers through its HIMA project. As a majority-owned subsidiary of Geely (which also owns Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr, and Lynk & Co), Meizu does not need external partnerships. It can leverage Geely’s SEA platform and production facilities.

Meizu’s first car, the DreamCar MX, is set to be unveiled later this year. It will be produced by Geely, and CarNewsChina suggests the design is already finalized. The car is expected to feature Meizu FlyMe, an intelligent integration of the vehicle operating system and the smartphone operating system. The DreamCar MX's announcement image shows a resemblance to the Lynk & Co Z10, an electric saloon from Geely's sister brand.

In January, Meizu founded the DreamCar MX community, an interactive platform for Meizu fans to share ideas and expectations and participate in the vehicle's design and development. This initiative aims to align the car with user needs and create more lifestyle scenarios.
