The recall affects Gladiators made between June 8, 2019, and May 18, 2024, and Wranglers produced from January 26, 2018, to May 17, 2024. Jeep found out about the issue on October 14, 2022, and spent 22 months looking into it before deciding to recall the vehicles.
The 3.5-inch display in these Jeeps can go blank suddenly and stay that way. Once it's dead, there's no bringing it back. This means drivers can't see important things like their speed or warning lights. It's not just annoying – it's dangerous and doesn't meet safety standards.
Jeep says a short circuit is causing the problem. To fix it, they'll replace the whole instrument panel cluster with a better one. They told dealers about the recall on September 12, 2023, and let owners know on October 3, 2023.
The company has stopped using these screens in new Gladiators and Wranglers as of May 2024. They're also offering to pay back folks who already shelled out money to fix this problem on their own.
