The INITIUM concept gives us a sneak peek at Hyundai's upcoming production FCEV. Its name, which means "beginning" or "first" in Latin, highlights Hyundai's role as a pioneer in hydrogen energy and its commitment to developing a hydrogen-powered future.
Hyundai's been working on hydrogen technology for 27 years, and the INITIUM shows off their latest advancements.
The INITIUM's design follows Hyundai's new "Art of Steel" language. It's got a strong SUV look with bold lines, a solid structure, and eye-catching 21-inch wheels. There's even a rugged roof rack for extra practicality. The design also includes nods to HTWO, Hyundai Motor Group's hydrogen business brand, with the HTWO symbol and a '+' inspired lighting signature.
Hyundai's targeting a range of over 650 km between fill-ups for the production version. They're promising excellent acceleration and smooth overtaking capabilities, thanks to an electric motor that can put out up to 150 kW (250 hp).

The INITIUM's fuel cell creates electricity without any pollutants. It's also got a neat trick up its sleeve - a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature. This lets you power and charge household appliances and personal devices from the car. There's even an outdoor terminal designed to plug straight into a 220V household outlet.
Safety's a big focus too. The INITIUM has a multi-skeleton structure at the front, a reinforced side body, and nine airbags.
Hyundai Motor plans to showcase INITIUM at the Los Angeles Auto Show and Auto Guangzhou in November. The production version of the INITIUM concept is set to launch in the first half of 2025.
