What makes e-POWER special? It's got a small gas engine and a lithium-ion battery that work together to power an electric motor. But here's the cool part - only the electric motor drives the wheels. This setup gives drivers an electric car feel with powerful acceleration and a quiet ride.
Nissan first brought out e-POWER in Japan back in 2016 with the Note e-POWER. Then in 2021, they introduced it in China with the Sylphy e-POWER sedan. Europe got its first taste of e-POWER in 2022 with the X-Trail and Qashqai SUVs. Europeans have really taken to these cars, buying more than 100,000 of them by January.
In Japan, e-POWER is a big deal. During the 2023 fiscal year, 42.6% of all Nissan vehicles sold there were e-POWER models. Japanese drivers can choose from the Note e-POWER, Kicks SUV, X-Trail SUV, and Serena minivan.
China's got the Sylphy e-POWER sedan and X-Trail SUV. Over in Europe, they're driving the X-Trail and Qashqai SUVs.
Nissan's not stopping there. They plan to bring e-POWER to the United States and Canada by the end of the 2026 fiscal year.
The company says it'll keep working on making e-POWER even better. Their goal? To meet the needs of all kinds of customers around the world.
