Subaru has unveiled a prototype of the WRX STI S210 sedan at the Tokyo Auto Salon, held from 10 to 12 January. Unfortunately for fans of the brand, this version will be available only in Japan.

The Subaru WRX STI S210 prototype is based on the WRX S4 STI Sport R EX. This version of the sedan is the culmination of the knowledge gained by the brand during the Nürburgring 24-hour race. Only 500 units are planned to be produced and all of them will be sold in Japan.

Under the bonnet is a 2.4-litre turbocharged engine with 300bhp and 375Nm of torque, which is about 25bhp and 26Nm more than the regular WRX sold in various parts of the world including the US, Japan and Australia. However, there is no manual transmission: the model can only be fitted with a CVT automatic transmission.

The new special edition features 19-inch BBS alloy wheels, a new exhaust system, Recaro sports seats with red seat belts and branded decals for the front fascia in the interior of each of the 500 cars.
