The Nürburgring has introduced one of the most significant rule changes in recent years. The management of the famous racetrack has banned motorcyclists from taking part in "tourist races" on the Nordschleife (Northern Loop). The new rules will come into force from the 2025 season, which will start soon.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday, the Nürburgring's management cited safety concerns as the reason for the ban. "The different driving dynamics of two- and four-wheeled vehicles create a risk of misunderstanding, especially for motorcyclists," the statement said. "To make driving safer for everyone, cars and motorbikes will be strictly separated in the future. At the same time, we have restructured and expanded our offer for motorcyclists."

From now on, the famous tourist rides on the Nordschleife, where anyone with an approved vehicle can take to the track, are exclusively authorised for cars. Motorcyclists are still allowed to use the 20.8km route, but only as part of "sightseeing trips during professionally organised training sessions".

However, the Nürburgring will not be completely closed to motorcyclists in 2025. Two-wheelers will still be allowed on the shorter, more modern and safer Grand-Prix-Strecke circuit. There are 38 events scheduled for this year. Special routes will be organised for motorcyclists, "flexibly integrated into tourist journeys to ensure safe and comfortable driving".
