The new A6 Avant has become Audi's most aerodynamic station wagon with an internal combustion engine - the coefficient of drag (cd) is 0.25. The length of the model has increased by 60 mm and now reaches 4,990 mm.
The A6 Avant is built on the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform. This platform opens up the following features:
- adaptive air suspension (optional);
- all-wheel drive chassis system (optional);
- a new quattro sport differential for all-wheel drive versions.
All equipment comes standard with progressive steering, which is claimed to provide more direct feedback than before. Combined with a stiffer body and slightly increased front wheel camber, this system promises to improve steering response and make steering more engaging.

The new A6 Avant will be available with petrol and diesel engines. They all feature the 48-volt MHEV Plus mild-hybrid system, which provides an extra 24bhp and 230Nm. There's also the option of energy recovery during braking and the ability to travel on electric power for low-speed manoeuvres such as car parks.
The following versions are announced at launch:
- 2.0 TFSI (petrol, 204 hp);
- 3.0 TFSI (petrol, 367 hp);
- 2.0 TDI (diesel, 204 hp);
In addition, plug-in hybrid modifications can be expected in the future.

Also available for the A6 is a panoramic roof with the ability to adjust the degree of dimming, Bang Olufsen audio system, four-zone climate control and many other options.
