Toyota has unveiled an updated version of the bZ4X electric SUV in North American specification. In addition to improved technical equipment and point changes in appearance, the model will change its name: it will be called simply Toyota bZ.

Toyota has slightly updated the exterior of the electric SUV. New front optics with thin DRLs integrated into the front bumper are noticeable. The wheel arches have been redesigned with optional painted edging. Overall, the bZ looks more minimalist than the bZ4x of previous years.

Inside, there is a new centre console, two induction chargers in the front, a larger 14-inch multimedia screen, improved finishing materials and 64-colour customisable interior lighting.

The main technical innovation is a lithium-ion battery with increased capacity (up to 74.7 kWh), available for XLE FWD Plus, XLE AWD and Limited (FWD and AWD) versions. According to the manufacturer, these trims will be able to travel up to 314 miles (505 km) on a full charge. The base version of the XLE FWD will remain with a 57.7 kWh battery.

The eAxle powertrains have been upgraded to use silicon carbide (SiC) in the semiconductors, which has increased efficiency and power:

  • All-wheel drive (AWD) versions now develop 338 hp - 50% more than before - and accelerate from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.9 seconds.
  • The front-wheel drive (FWD) versions have also gained in power: now 221 hp compared to the previous 201.

All versions also have the function of preheating the battery before charging at a DC station, which is especially useful in cold climates. The function is activated manually or automatically if the route in the navigation is set to a fast charging station.

In addition, the 2026 Toyota bZ will receive a Tesla's NACS connector, which provides access to thousands of Supercharger fast charging stations across the United States and Canada. Under ideal conditions, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes. Plug Charge technology has also been introduced - the car is automatically identified at supported charging stations, eliminating the need to use various mobile applications.

The updated Toyota bZ will start arriving at dealers in the second half of 2025. Prices will be announced closer to the launch.
