Mitsubishi has announced a new generation of the Eclipse Cross crossover for Europe, where the model will be fully electric. The new model will be based on the Renault Scenic E-Tech and will debut in September this year.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross EV will join the European family of electrified Mitsubishi vehicles built on Renault platforms. It already includes the Colt based on the Renault Clio, the ASX as an analogue of the Renault Captur, and the Grandis, which is a renamed Renault Symbioz. At the same time, Mitsubishi also continues to develop its own Outlander.

So far, only a few teaser images of the new model have been published, where you can see the original wheel rims, the front end in the corporate Dynamic Shield style, recessed door handles and inscriptions on the boot lid. By the way, the car's design was developed by Mitsubishi's European studio in Germany.

The interior will be spacious and functional, aimed at a family audience. Like the Scenic, the model will offer a two-row layout with five seats and a 545-litre boot. Technical innovations include a multimedia system with Google integration and an expanded set of active safety systems (ADAS).

Focusing on Renault, we can expect that the new Eclipse Cross will be launched in a version with an extended range at the start. Later, in 2026, a more affordable modification is expected to appear. Both are likely to inherit the characteristics of the Scenic E-Tech:

  • 60 kWh and 87 kWh batteries;
  • Power plants: single-engine 170 hp (125 kW) and twin-engine 218 hp (160 kW).

Production of the Mitsubishi electric crossover will be set up at the Ampere Electricity plant in Douai, France, the same place where the Renault Scenic E-Tech is produced.
