Pirelli's plant in Rome, Georgia, will soon start producing a new model of the P Zero line called the Trofeo Track. This model has been developed with the US market in mind and exclusively for it.

Pirelli has been producing tyres for performance and sports cars for decades, with the P Zero range dating back to the mid-1980s and the Lancia Delta S4 rally car. Since 2002, the company has also been producing tyres in the USA.

The reason for the regional focus of the P Zero Trofeo Track is the niche but steady demand from American club racers. Competing in events organised by organisations such as the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) often requires the use of DOT-certified tyres - formally suitable for US public roads. While some P Zero models do meet these requirements, they are more geared towards road use.

The new P Zero Trofeo Track is designed specifically for racing classes where DOT-certified, but highly sticky tyres are allowed. In fact, these are track slicks with a minimal groove pattern - just enough to pass certification. Technically, they are still legal on the roads, but Pirelli explicitly states that they are not recommended for street use. In this case, the tread is not designed to drain water, but only to comply with regulations.

The exact timing of the Trofeo Track's availability has not yet been announced, with Pirelli only promising a launch "in the near future". The tyre will be available for wheels with diameters ranging from 17 to 21 inches.

The P Zero Trofeo Track will not be offered as a factory option by car manufacturers - it will only be available through aftermarket retailers. In the future, it is planned to expand the range with additional sizes for small and classic cars.
