Volkswagen began supplying series-production electric vehicles in September 2020, with the launch of the ID. range. To date, Volkswagen leads both the German and European markets for EV sales.
Over the past few years, the company has invested more than 1 billion euros in the Emden factory, completely equipping it for electric vehicle production. In addition to Emden, the Zwickau and Dresden Gläserne Manufaktur factories are also specialised in this area. Electric Volkswagens are also produced in Hanover and Chattanooga in the USA, as well as in Foshan, Changsha and Anting in China.
The ID. family is constantly expanding. The first model - the ID.3 hatchback - was originally designed as an electric vehicle on a specialized platform. In 2021, it was joined by the ID.4 crossover and its coupe version, the ID.5, followed by the ID. Buzz minivan. The latest novelties are the ID.7 sedan and the ID.7 Tourer station wagon, which became the best-selling electric vehicle in Germany in the first half of 2025.
Volkswagen has new premieres ahead. In 2026, the series version of the compact ID. 2all will launch at a price of less than 25,000 euros, and a year later - the ID. EVERY1 model, which will cost around 20,000 euros. "Our goal is simple: to make electric vehicles accessible to everyone - affordable, reliable, and environmentally friendly," emphasized Martin Sander, member of the Volkswagen Board of Directors for sales, marketing, and after-sales service.
