Volkswagen is changing its approach to naming electric cars: the new models will take names from the brand's most popular models. The first will be the compact ID. Polo, the production version of the ID. 2all concept. Its launch is planned for 2026 - the 50th anniversary of Polo.

According to Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer, the model names of the brand have firmly established themselves in people's consciousness. They embody quality, timeless design, and technologies for everyone. Thus, the familiar designations will be carried into the future. ID. Polo will be the first, but not the only example of this strategy.

In the future, Volkswagen intends to consistently transfer proven names to its electric lineup. At the same time, internal combustion engine vehicles will retain their familiar names.

In 2026, the sporty version of the electric Polo - ID. Polo GTI, based on the ID. GTI concept, will also go into production. Volkswagen promises outstanding dynamics and maximum driving pleasure.

Masked prototypes of ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI will be shown to the public for the first time at the IAA Mobility 2025 motor show in Munich (September 8-14). On the eve of this, on September 7, Volkswagen will also present the concept of a compact electric crossover ID. CROSS, the production version of which - ID. Cross - will debut at the end of 2026 as an electric equivalent of the T-Cross.

It is worth mentioning that the ID. family was presented in 2018 and was originally conceived as a separate line of electric vehicles. The first was the ID.3 hatchback, followed by the ID.4, ID.5, ID. Buzz, and the flagship ID.7, which is currently the best-selling electric Volkswagen in Europe.
