The electric sedan Mercedes-Benz EQS with a solid-state battery prototype covered a distance of 1,205 kilometers on a single charge from Stuttgart (Germany) to Malmo (Sweden). The car arrived at its destination with a remaining range of 137 km.

The battery was developed in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth (United Kingdom), where technologies for Formula 1 are created. The cells are supplied by the American company Factorial Energy.

To compensate for volume changes during charging and discharging, the battery pack is equipped with pneumatic actuators that maintain stable pressure on the cells. With the same dimensions and weight as the standard EQS battery, its capacity has been increased by 25%. Additional efficiency has been achieved through passive air cooling.

Thus, the EQS broke the record of the Vision EQXX prototype, which previously traveled 1,202 km (Stuttgart - Silverstone). The company emphasized that the goal of such tests is to check the performance of the technology under various conditions and to accelerate preparations for serial production.
