Tesla has updated the Model 3 in European specification. The sedan received larger batteries and a classic steering wheel turn signal stalk. The range according to the WLTP cycle has increased by up to 48 kilometers depending on the version.

When the Model 3 debuted in 2019 in European markets, the sedan was the benchmark for range. But in the years since, competitors have caught up: the Mercedes-Benz CLA EQ and BMW iX3 now cover up to 800 kilometers on a single charge. Tesla refreshed the Model 3 in early 2024 and has now installed batteries with higher-density cells in the electric vehicles.

Tesla traditionally does not disclose the exact capacity of batteries, but before the update, the sedans used blocks of 78.1 kWh (for the rear-wheel-drive version) and 82 kWh (for the all-wheel-drive version).

How the range has changed according to the WLTP cycle:

  • Model 3 Long Range with rear-wheel drive — now 750 km instead of 692 km;
  • Base rear-wheel-drive version — 554 km instead of 512 km
  • Long Range with all-wheel drive — 716 km instead of 694 km
  • Performance — 571 km instead of 528 km

The upgraded batteries will also be installed in the Model Y Long Range crossover with all-wheel drive. Its range will increase from 585 to 628 kilometers.

As part of the refresh, Tesla removed the traditional steering wheel stalk, replacing it with buttons on the steering wheel. This decision was criticized by both journalists and owners. Now the company has acknowledged its mistake and returned the familiar element to all drivers.
