BMW has filed a patent application with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) for screws with heads designed in the likeness of the company emblem.

The patent describes four types of heads, including flat and rounded ones. Each of them reflects the form of the BMW emblem, which is divided into four sectors. Two sectors are recessed, while the rest are flat or protruding.

At first glance, the branded screw heads look interesting, especially when used on visible parts of cars. But for mechanics or owners with standard tool kits, they are much less attractive. Unconventional screws mean that conventional tools do not fit, and anyone wishing to access important nodes may need special BMW equipment.

It is not hard to imagine the headaches this could cause in workshops. Standard sets are not suitable, and if you are not a BMW dealer or a dedicated enthusiast, you will find that you lack a screwdriver for a complete repair.

However, whether these screws will go into production remains questionable. Car manufacturers file many patents that never go beyond theoretical considerations. These specific drawings were filed on June 7, 2024, and published on December 11, 2025. But they remain just drawings for now.
