To create the signature sound, BMW recorded the engines of the M3 GTS with a V8, M4 GTS with an inline "six," and the classic M6 with a V10 engine. These recordings were made on a dyno and used as the basis for the sound profile of the electric prototype, supplemented by the characteristic high-frequency tone of electric motors.
Similar to Hyundai N electric vehicles, the electric M3 will have simulated gear shifting and synthetic engine sounds. All effects can be turned off for "pure" electric driving.
Technically, the model promises to be a full-fledged M car: four electric motors, a battery capacity of about 100 kWh, and individual traction control on each wheel are confirmed. There will also be a rear-wheel drive mode. BMW has not yet disclosed the exact power figures.
The debut of the fully electric BMW M3 is expected in 2027.
