The start of the service campaign was first reported by Reuters. According to them, the company is already contacting car owners and recommending temporarily limiting the battery charge to 70% capacity. Replacing the defective batteries could cost the manufacturer approximately $200 million.
The exact distribution of recalled vehicles by country has not yet been disclosed.
Volvo introduced the EX30 in 2023 as the more compact model in its line of electric vehicles, following the Volvo EX90. The EX30 is currently the brand’s smallest car and is positioned below the Volvo XC40. Production of the model is organized in China and Belgium.
Battery defects in electric and hybrid vehicles are considered critical due to the risk of fire. Such fires can be difficult to extinguish. Automakers usually recommend that owners park vehicles with potential battery defects away from buildings and other cars until the defect is rectified.
