Škoda has invested 205 million euros in expanding the production of battery systems at its plant in Mladá Boleslav, becoming the largest manufacturer of battery systems for electric vehicles (BEV) within the Volkswagen Group.

The main production site of Škoda became the first in Europe among the group's enterprises to establish the production of cell-to-pack batteries for mass-produced electric vehicles. The production capacity exceeds 1,100 battery systems per day and up to 335,000 units per year. The project is being developed in cooperation with the Volkswagen Group Technology Center of Excellence Battery division.

The new cell-to-pack batteries are intended for mass-market BEV models. They are characterized by durability, a simplified production process, and more cost-effective efficiency.

Thanks to the full localization of the cell-to-pack process, the use of standardized cells, and LFP chemistry, as well as other measures, Škoda was able to reduce the cost of batteries by 30% compared to existing MEB platform batteries.

The plant will produce more than 1,100 battery systems per day for Škoda models and other Volkswagen Group brands in various segments. The Battery Competence Center, responsible for the development and industrial implementation of battery systems within Volkswagen Group Technology, collaborates with the Czech manufacturer and other brands to localize the value chain in Europe and enhance control over the key component.

The expansion of production underlines Škoda's role as an important supplier of components within the Brand Group Core. In the future, this will allow the company to produce up to 200,000 electric vehicles per year at the main plant.

In 2025, Škoda more than doubled BEV deliveries and took fourth place in electric vehicle sales in its key market — Europe. Major contributions came from the Škoda Elroq, which became the second most popular BEV model in the region. In 2026, the company plans to accelerate electrification by introducing new models: Škoda Epiq will enter the affordable segment, and Škoda Peaq will enhance the upper part of the lineup.
