The Chinese automotive industry continues its expansion into the European market, and it is doing so quite competently. While some buyers are still wary of all-electric vehicles, Changan offers an intermediate, yet technological option — the Deepal S05 PHEV. The new model will be available for order in Europe as early as May 2026.
This crossover became the brand’s first model to use the unique «ultra-hybrid» technology. The system is designed for daily urban trips without emissions and comfortable long journeys.

Power plant: the duo of electricity and gasoline
The heart of the Deepal S05 PHEV is a power unit that combines a synchronous permanent magnet electric motor with a capacity of 172 kW and a 1.5-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine that produces 63 kW. The total system power is 190 kW, which is transmitted to the front wheels.
Interestingly, under certain conditions, the internal combustion engine operates exclusively as a generator, charging the battery without a direct connection to the wheels. The electric-only range is 100 km, and the total autonomy exceeds 1000 km.

LFP battery and fast charging
The vehicle is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 18.4 kWh. This chemistry is more durable and less prone to degradation compared to nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) counterparts.
Despite being a hybrid, Changan spared no expense on charging speed. From a DC station with a power of 55 kW, the battery is charged from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes. It also supports AC charging up to 11 kW. The model offers the Vehicle to Load (V2L) function, which turns the car into a gigantic power bank for connecting laptops, refrigerators, or camping equipment.
Design from Turin and safety
The exterior of the crossover is the result of the work of Changan European Design Centre in Turin. The design turned out to be so successful that the model has already received the prestigious iF Design Award 2025. With a length of 4598 mm and a wheelbase of 2880 mm, the S05 offers a spacious interior and a trunk volume from 552 to 1310 liters.
As for safety, everything is in order: 17 driver assistance systems (ADAS) are standard equipment. The electric version of the model has already received the highest rating of 5 stars from Euro NCAP.
