The new Michelin Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy tires are aimed at owners of internal combustion engine cars, hybrids, and above all, electric vehicles, where every percentage of rolling resistance translates into real kilometers of range.
Primacy 5 Energy: triple "A" standard
The Primacy 5 Energy model is the first in Michelin’s history to receive the highest "A" rating in all three key metrics of the European labeling: fuel efficiency, wet road grip, and noise level.
Compared to its predecessor e-Primacy, the new product brakes 8% more efficiently on wet asphalt, and this indicator remains at a high level even with significant tread wear. For electric vehicle owners, the numbers look even more attractive: using these tires can increase the range by up to 10%. For internal combustion engine cars, this means a fuel savings of about 0.3 l/100 km. In addition, engineers managed to reduce noise levels.
Pilot Sport 5 Energy: drive without extra costs
The sports line is usually associated with a soft rubber compound that "sticks" to the road but wears out quickly and increases fuel consumption. Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Energy tries to break this stereotype. The model is designed for powerful sedans and crossovers, maintaining the handling precision of the Pilot Sport line while meeting the "A" class for energy efficiency.
Technologies borrowed from motorsport provide a stable contact patch during aggressive maneuvering. The ability of these tires to withstand extreme loads was confirmed during tests on the Mercedes AMG GT XX Concept prototype. This proves that low rolling resistance does not interfere with the tire operating at high speeds for extended periods.
Robotic production in Cuneo
Both new products are manufactured at the Cuneo plant (Italy), where Michelin has deployed one of the most modern robotic lines in Europe. This allows achieving precise accuracy in the distribution of rubber compound layers, which is critically important for low rolling resistance tires. Any imbalance or extra millimeter of material increases weight and deteriorates the aerodynamic properties of the wheel.
The new models will go on sale soon. Primacy 5 Energy will debut in 35 sizes (from 16 to 21 inches), covering most popular modern cars. Pilot Sport 5 Energy will be available in 18 sizes (from 18 to 21 inches), and by the end of 2026, the lineup will expand to 24 inches.
