After a long pause, the company has shown the first sketches of its new project with the index #2. It is a direct successor to the legendary Fortwo, which once revolutionized parking in congested megacities.
Returning to the roots in a new format
When the production of the classic two-seater Smart ended, the brand’s fans were concerned. Models #1 and #3, which appeared as a result of the collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, turned out to be significantly larger and heavier. The concept #2 is expected to bring back the maneuverability that is so lacking on narrow streets. Judging by the teasers from Smart, the new model will retain a short wheelbase but will feature a modern design language with smooth lines and LED optics.
It is important to understand that Smart #2 is designed from scratch as a pure electric vehicle. This allows for the most efficient use of interior space. Rumors suggest that the body length will not exceed 2,700 mm, which will allow parking almost perpendicularly to the curb, as the owners of the first generations of the model do. However, now it will be accompanied by the silence of the electric engine and the absence of harmful emissions.
Technological filling
Although detailed specifications are still kept secret, rumors are circulating about the use of the adapted SEA platform from the parent company Geely. This means support for fast charging and a range sufficient for several days of intensive city traffic without plugging into a socket. The expected battery capacity may be around 30-40 kWh, which is quite enough for such a tiny car.
