Peugeot is changing the commercial names of its plug-in hybrids to comply with the future Euro 7 standard requirements. The new rules will come into effect at the end of 2026 for new models and from the end of 2027 for all new cars on sale.
The key change is a different approach to certifying the total power output of the hybrid system. This refers to the GTR21 protocol, which recalculates the "total" output of the gasoline engine and electric motor.
New figures without new technology
Peugeot decided not to wait for deadlines and applied the new methodology now. The result is changed official power figures and, accordingly, model names.
An important point: there are no technical changes. Engines, batteries, fuel consumption, and emission levels remain the same.
The updated values are as follows:
- Peugeot 3008 Plug-in Hybrid - 225 hp (166 kW)
- Peugeot 5008 Plug-in Hybrid - 225 hp (166 kW)
- Peugeot 408 Plug-in Hybrid - 240 hp (177 kW)
Accordingly, the names have changed to explicitly indicate the new certified power.
Why it matters
Previously, manufacturers could interpret the total power of hybrids differently, which made direct comparison difficult. GTR21 aims to correct this: one methodology for all, fewer marketing "liberties". For buyers, this means more honest figures - at least in theory.
