Tesla has updated the color range for Model 3 and Model Y in the US market. Both models have received two new shades of blue. The first is called Marine Blue, and the second is Frost Blue Metallic.
Marine Blue is not available for all versions
Marine Blue is a darker and more restrained color, which has replaced Deep Blue Metallic. It is offered only for the more expensive configurations:
- Premium Rear-Wheel Drive
- Premium All-Wheel Drive
Marine Blue
For basic versions, the palette remained unchanged. Buyers of the most affordable Model 3 and Model Y still have access to only:
- Stealth Grey
- Pearl White Multi-Coat Pearl White
- Diamond Black
In the US, the extra cost for Marine Blue is $1,000.
Frost Blue Metallic returned
The second new color is Frost Blue Metallic. However, this is not exactly new: this shade was previously used on Model S and Model X before they were discontinued. Now it has been brought back for:
- Model 3 Performance
- Model Y Performance
Frost Blue Metallic
Moreover, in the US, this color has become a free option.
Tesla is traditionally very cautious with colors
Tesla has long been criticized for having a too conservative color palette. The company usually offers a minimum of bright shades, focusing on gray, white, and black colors. Therefore, even the appearance of two new blue options for Tesla is already a noticeable update.
