Honda brought to America an almost production hot hatchback Civic Type R 2023. A prototype in camouflage was shown to the spectators of Sunday's Honda Indy 200 race at the Mid-Ohio track.

A still-disguised 2023 Honda Civic Type R was the lead car at the start of the Honda Indy 200 race. The prototype was driven by Chad Gilsinger, a dynamics engineer at Honda's North American Vehicle Development Center.

The specifications of the new Civic Type R are still shrouded in mystery, but the manufacturer says the car was designed from the ground up and is a completely new model, not just an evolution of the Type R FK8.

Honda said some time ago that this would be the "most powerful and most productive" version of the Civic, and would be offered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.

Under the hood of the hatchback, a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with over 300 hp is expected. Perhaps it will develop a little more than 306 hp. or 316 hp available from the previous generation CTR, depending on region.

During the long preparations for the world premiere, the new Honda Civic Type R was recognized as the fastest front-wheel drive car on the Suzuka track in Japan (video below). Then he was spotted at the Nurburgring in Germany. Supposedly in an attempt to beat the current front-wheel drive production car record, the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R Nürburgring Pack, of 7 minutes 40.1 seconds.

In a brief press release to mark the public debut of the 2023 Civic Type R in the United States, Honda said the hot hatch will go on sale in the local market before the end of the year. The previous generation retailed for $38,910. The new one has every chance to overcome the mark of 40 thousand dollars.
