The single-speed e-bike developed by the Italian startup TO.TEM is equipped with the TO.TEM Eye system. This technology has already been used in the Lynx three-wheeled electric scooter.
A rear view camera is installed under the saddle of the Cobra bike. During the trip, it continuously transmits live video to the driver's smartphone mounted on the steering wheel. The image is displayed in a proprietary application - thus TO.TEM Eye acts as an electronic equivalent of a rear-view mirror.
In addition, the video is analyzed by software based on artificial intelligence. If this software detects that a fast approaching vehicle is in the path of a collision with a bicycle, it alerts the driver with a beep on the smartphone.
As for the Cobra bike itself, it has an aluminum frame with a carbon fork, hydraulic disc brakes, 700 x 42C tires and a Gates Carbon belt-driven drivetrain.
The rider's pedaling power is increased by a 250-watt rear hub motor that propels the bike to a top speed of 32 km/h. This motor is powered by a 250 Wh lithium battery built into the down tube of the frame. The battery is fully charged in four hours. One charge should be enough for a distance of up to 75 km. The weight of the electric bike is 15.5 kg.
The Cobra is not yet in production. Later this week, TO.TEM will announce a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The first registered participants will be able to purchase a bike for 3999 euros, after which the retail price will rise to 4999 euros.
