Toyota has unveiled updates to the seven-seater Highlander SUV for 2023. In select markets in Europe, the six-cylinder petrol engine will be replaced by a four-cylinder turbo unit, but this is not the only innovation.

In Western Europe, the Toyota Highlander debuted in 2021 with a 248 hp hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. These vehicles will remain in the lineup next year, but for Eastern European markets Toyota will offer a new 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine to replace the previous 3.5-liter V6 unit.

The same 2.4 liter turbo engine with 269 hp. and a torque of 430 Nm is installed on the Lexus NX. Exact fuel economy figures for the Highlander have yet to be revealed, Toyota only noted that the smaller engine has a more modest appetite for gasoline and is more environmentally friendly.

Also new for 2023 is Cypress Green body color, 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels and a 12.3-inch Smart Connect infotainment system with digital instrument cluster. The system supports cloud navigation, smartphone control, wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

In expensive trim levels, an advanced version of the Smart Connect + system with built-in navigation will appear, which can work without an Internet connection. In addition, all Highlander models are now equipped with a wireless charging tray that has been moved to the front console for ease of use.

The updated Toyota Highlander is already available for order. The first vehicle deliveries will begin in the fourth quarter of 2022.
