Toyota's flagship sedan, with the change of generations, was reborn into a whole family of cars of different classes. And in Japan, the crossover will be the first to go on sale.

A model called the Crown appeared in Japan in 1955 and became the first mass-produced Toyota passenger car completely of its own design. In the next 67 years, 15 generations of sedans came out, and during the development of the 16th, Toyota completely revised the concept of this model and created four new models. They will be presented in 40 countries.

The spread of the Toyota Crown family around the world will begin with Japan. There, tentatively in the fall of 2022, a crossover with a coupe silhouette and large wheels will go on sale first. It will be available in 12 exterior colors and four interior color combinations.

The car is built on the TNGA platform with a McPherson-type suspension at the front and a multi-link rear suspension. The crossover and other models of the family will receive the latest Toyota Safety Sense security systems as standard. In addition, an autopilot for driving in traffic jams, a remote-controlled parking system and other electronic assistants are promised.

The Toyota Crown crossover will receive an electrified power plant based on a 2.4-liter gasoline turbo engine, an eAxle hybrid transmission, a 6-speed automatic transmission and a new nickel-hydrogen battery developed by Toyota Industries Corporation.

In such a system, a separate electric motor is responsible for the rotation of the rear wheels. The second electric motor is mounted at the front, it transmits torque to the front wheels through a wet clutch. When more power is needed, another clutch connects to the 6-speed "automatic" petrol engine, which is also used to charge the traction battery.

In addition, a sequential hybrid version with a 2.5-liter engine and a hybrid continuously variable transmission, already familiar to other Toyota models, will be available. However, it will also receive an innovative traction battery and will be all-wheel drive.

Toyota Crown Crossover will be produced at Motomachi and Tsutsumi plants in Japan. The starting price of the version with a 2.4-liter turbo engine is 6,050,000 yen (about 43.5 thousand US dollars or euros). The modification with the 2.5 engine is cheaper and is estimated at a minimum of 4,750,000 yen (approximately 34,100 dollars or euros).
