All-wheel drive station wagons BMW 5 series adopted by the police of the Czech Republic. Some of the cars are designed to monitor the track in police livery, others are for covert surveillance under the guise of civilian cars.

On 15 July, the first ten BMW 540i xDrive Touring police cars were inaugurated at the BMW Stratos Auto showroom in Prague. In total, the Czech police intend to purchase 70 of these station wagons.

Half of the cars will have a police livery and external special signals. Other cars on the outside will look like regular BMW 5 Series, and special equipment will be disguised. At the same time, radio stations, cameras for fixing offenses and other specialized equipment were promised to all cars.

The BMW 540i xDrive Touring is a station wagon with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine producing 333 hp. with a hybrid superstructure. The car has an all-wheel drive system, an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and an adaptive chassis.

The head of the traffic police, Colonel George Plohoy, explained that the new BMW vehicles, both in the commercial version and in the version of the Police of the Czech Republic, will be mainly included in the traffic departments of individual regional police departments and in the national traffic police department.

“An important step to improve the conditions and quality of police work is also the regular change of vehicle fleet. I am glad that police officers will be able to use in their service such modern, safe and fast vehicles as these 10 BMW cars,” said Deputy Chief of Police, Colonel Jaromir Bischof.
