According to Aptera, their solar chargers boast a range of 40 miles (64 km), which could possibly mean that drivers wouldn't have to stop at a charging station at all.
The Gamma car is the final Aptera before it moves to a production-intent prototype, with consumer-bound cars set to go into production in 2023. With over 32,000 reservations, Aptera claims to have more than a third of them in the last few months. The automobile will be produced at Aptera's new facility in Carlsbad, California.
That said, we're not talking about a typical automobile. Aptera's prototypes are strange in every way; they wouldn't look right on any city street. Still, the idea of a two-seater that does not require recharging and delivers most of the same benefits as EVs is appealing. Beyond that, the vehicle is no lightweight, having beaten a Tesla Model 3 in a short drag race earlier this year and finishing neck-and-neck with an Audi R8.
