iPhone maker unveils compact crossover and electric double cab pickup truck

Foxconn, an electronics manufacturer, is now designing electric cars under the name Foxtron. The brand has presented two new models: the Model B and the Model V, a crossover and a pickup. It is also showing the production-ready Model C SUV, which will roll off the assembly line in Taiwan starting next year.

The Italian design company Pininfarina, mostly known for its work on Ferraris, has been brought in by Foxtron to help with the Model B. Though it shares a silhouette with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car, the Model B is actually smaller all around and has a low drag coefficient of 0.26 for an impressive 450 km range.

Details of the Model B's battery haven't been disclosed, but it's understood the compact SUV uses a single electric motor producing 169 kW (226 hp).

The Model V from Foxtron is being promoted as an "all-terrain pick-up", which leads one to believe that it has two electric motors powering its all-wheel drive system. According to the Taiwanese company, the vehicle can go for up to 420 km before needing a charge and can hold a payload of one tonne.

The Model V has a wheelbase of 3220 mm (126 inches), which is 50mm (1.96 inches) shorter than the dual-cab Ford Ranger. It is also said to have a towing capacity of up to three tonnes (6613 pounds) - 500 kg (1102 pounds) less than what the current pick-up segment leaders can tow.

The Foxtron Model C is the first car to go into production. With a power of 338 kW (453 hp), the Model C can achieve 100 km/h from standstill in only 3.8 seconds, and it has a range of 700 km (435 miles). In less than two days, Foxtron says they have received 15,000 pre-orders for the vehicle with deliveries beginning in 2023 for selected markets.
