According to Volvo CEO Jim Rowan, electric vehicles will become just as affordable as gas-powered cars by 2025. Although Rowan is optimistic about the future of the industry, there are many variables that could change his assessment.
"We think we get [to price parity] ... around 2025, where there'll be enough technology that's driving down cost on the battery. Technology will drive range up. Less batteries, but more range, at less cost - we'll get there." Jim Rowan said at a recent Volvo event in Stockholm, Sweden.
Rowan's comments show that, rather than talking about battery prices in general, he believes that advancements in technology will mean that fewer batteries will be needed for adequate driving range. Since batteries are the most expensive part of an EV, this would make sense - though it doesn't explain why automakers and dealers price electric cars higher than they should.
