The GM Design Instagram account does not mention the sketch as a Blazer, but designer Brian Malczewski, who created the sketch, referred to it as a "slightly different" version of the Blazer back in 2015. Despite this, it is worth noting that the Blazer moniker was ultimately used for a different vehicle, a crossover that was launched in 2019.
The sketch features upright wheel arches and tires that appear ready for off-road use. The body lines are sharp and largely flat, and there is space for only two passengers. In 2015, the Jeep Wrangler was the only two-door off-roader available in the US. With the success of the Ford Bronco in 2020, it raises the question of whether Chevy would now consider producing this design, instead of the crossover Blazer.
It is important to note that the Blazer has had its own success, with Chevrolet selling nearly 100,000 units in 2020, however, sales have dropped to 67,246 units in 2022. The recent sales of the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, with 117,057 and 181,409 units respectively, in 2022, has some at GM headquarters wondering what could have been if this "slightly different" design had entered production.
